Brewer Smith Brewer Group (BSBG) has completed the final handover of Nobu Hotel London Portman Square in the roles of Executive Architect, Executive Interior Designer and Lead Consultant. Nobu Hotel Portman Square opened at the beginning of December, with reviews from The Times, Forbes and others paying tribute to the quality of the finished project.
Forbes said: “Becoming a bonafide scene is no easy feat. It takes style, but luckily, Nobu Hotel London Portman Square is not lacking in that department—especially in terms of the interiors. The lobby, by David Collins Studio, is all glass, light and height, with a 16-foot, suspended kinetic sculpture by award-winning British sculptor, Ivan Black. The lobby lounge and bar is darkly sexy in jewel tones, tactile fabrics and glowing light features. The 249 rooms and suites, by Make Architects, are a study in restraint with natural woods, soothing neutrals and Japanese accents (think: lanterns, bonsai trees, stoneware tea sets and ink-brush-inspired artwork by artists like Thomas Hammer and Rod McIntosh). Bathrooms are kitted out in copper-veined marble with deep soaking tubs, Toto toilets, kimono-style robes and the most exquisitely scented Grown Alchemist toiletries, which are joyfully full-sized.”
BSBG worked alongside David Collins Studio (lobby and public areas) and Make Architects (guest rooms and suites) to execute the interior design of the hotel, with the vast triple-storey atrium lobby space, the lounge bar and the Nobu restaurant three of the key components within the hotel that exemplify the rich, tactile and Japanese-infused design.
Forbes also provided a glowing review of the guestrooms in their piece on the hotel: “The 249 rooms and suites, by Make Architects, are a study in restraint with natural woods, soothing neutrals and Japanese accents (think: lanterns, bonsai trees, stoneware tea sets and ink-brush-inspired artwork by artists like Thomas Hammer and Rod McIntosh). Bathrooms are kitted out in copper-veined marble with deep soaking tubs, Toto toilets, kimono-style robes and the most exquisitely scented Grown Alchemist toiletries, which are joyfully full-sized. The staff also adds to the panache, dressed in ultra-cool uniforms that can be playfully described as “Yohji Yamamoto meets The Matrix”.”
Senior Architect Kai Du led the project for BSBG in London. “Nobu Hotel London Portman Square involved extensive renovation and restoration works with the target of unifying the building’s exterior elements, and creating a stylish and elegant interior scheme. Now the project is finished and has been opened to the public, it’s been great to see the reviews and the delight of the client at the way in which the hotel has been finished. An incredibly prestigious project for BSBG, and a fantastic addition to our portfolio.”
