BSBG reveals design details of Playa Del Sol residences in Ras Al Khaimah

Brewer Smith Brewer Group (BSBG) has announced the details of a stunning new residential community located on Al Marjan Island, Ras Al Khaimah (RAK). Playa Del Sol marks the first +studio design in the emirate and is the latest in a series of residential designs completed for client, Ellington Properties.

The project consists of a selection of stylish studios, one, two, and three-bedroom apartments, three-bedroom duplexes, four-bedroom penthouses, and a five-bedroom villa. BSBG is the Design Architect, Lead Consultant, Executive Architect, Interior Designer, and Structural Engineer.

The residential development offers unobstructed views across the Arabian Gulf from its waterfront location, and features a clubhouse, squash court, yoga studio, gym, massage rooms, saunas, and steam rooms.

Michael Lewis, Group Design Director, explained more about the design of the project: “Play Del Sol brings high quality, contemporary design to the masterplan. It symbolises waterfront elegance, with a fantastic resort-style public realm, providing a sanctuary with great views out to the water. We’re very proud of the design, which is beautifully detailed and includes the use of an abundance of natural materials both throughout the exterior façade and public spaces, and within the interiors.”

The +studio interiors team were inspired by the geographical context in their approach to the project. Hadeel Kassam, Senior Interior Designer, said: “We wanted to bring the lightness of the beach and the serenity that is associated with it into the spaces, along with the tactility and general ambience. We managed to achieve that through minimising the unnecessary and focusing on experience, the choice of finishes and lighting, as well as the journey from one space to the next and the continuity of this theme throughout the development. The interiors' tonality is entirely inspired by coastal tones and textures, with beautiful limestone elevations, rich timber and raw and honest accents. The apartments are in keeping with the same direction, with light monochromatic finishes, varying textures and elegant simplicity.”

Michael also provided an update on +studio, and the dynamic approach that has resulted in multiple design awards and an influx of new projects over the course of 2024: “Within the studio we are constantly evolving our processes and systems. There is a core science and organisation, and the way we put a project together is a cerebral process, but I think the art and the creativity that sits around that benefits from a fluid approach that adapts to the client, the context, and brief. That is one of the strengths of +studio: we can adapt to the constraints of a specific project. We’re not really fixed in any one specific process. I see this as a positive, because we find it very easy to adjust to the challenges placed in front of us from one project to another, while retaining a consistent level of quality. If you look at our design portfolio within the last five years, you can see there is a definite thread, a certain design style that comes through. Our aesthetic design ethos focuses on the separation of horizontal and vertical, the junctions and details. We’re ensuring that all the planes, whether vertical or horizontal, have been considered at length, nothing is left to chance. I think this project is a great example of our focus on the finer details.”

Play Del Sol is the latest in a series of high-end residential developments designed by +studio. In late 2024, three +studio designs were recognised at the International Property Awards, with Mercer House (Mixed-Use Architecture, Dubai), One River Point (Residential High-Rise, Dubai), and UH by Ellington (Architecture Multiple Residences, Dubai) each winning best in category. Other award-winning BSBG residential design projects include Banyan Tree Residences – Hillside Dubai, Peninsula Four, The Plaza, and Beach Mansion.
