Enabling Works underway at DMCC’s Uptown Phase 2

Enabling Works are now well underway at the Uptown Phase 2 project, a commercial development featuring two mid-rise towers of 23 and 17 storeys, providing approximately 70,000 m2 of Grade A commercial office space, as well as 8,000 m2 of F&B and retail. The commercial project is the result of the strategic collaboration between Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) and Brewer Smith Brewer Group (BSBG). BSBG is the Concept Architect, Executive Architect, Lead Consultant, Interior Designer, Structural Engineer, and is now providing Construction Supervision as the project progresses on site.

Construction Update

Both piling and shoring are now complete, while excavation, testing, and commissioning continue. Shajahan Shahib, Associate, explained more about the ongoing works: “The project is progressing very well on site, and we remain on programme.”

“There are some challenges logistically due to the confined nature of the site, which is in close proximity to main highways and the Uptown Tower," Shajahan continued. "However, these are challenges we have faced and successfully overcome previously, for example on large, complex, and technical projects such as ICD Brookfield Place. There are many similarities between these two sites. We’re very pleased both with the progress of work so far, and also with the level of health and safety onsite, which is being upheld to the highest standard.”

About Uptown Phase 2

Uptown Phase 2 has been designed by BSBG +studio to interact seamlessly with the wider Uptown masterplan, as the two towers open out to an activated central plaza, which will become the focal point of the wider district. The plaza will host a dynamic and diverse offering of activities from immersive art installations, to music, film and fashion performances. The process of design involved analysing the masterplan beyond the plot boundary, to understand a methodology that could extract the most value for the client. The wider context of Uptown as a destination was considered in detail, with every design decision effectively referenced against the masterplan.

BSBG is also engaged on the adjacent, award-winning Mercer House scheme as the Concept Architect, Executive Architect, Lead Consultant, Structural Engineer, Interior Designer, and is providing Construction Supervision.
