Brewer Smith Brewer Group (BSBG) was the Executive Architect, Lead Consultant and Structural Engineer on Misk Schools, and also provided Construction Supervision, resulting in the successful delivery of the educational facility. The Concept Architect is Design Engine.
The principles of sustainability were central to the overall execution of the campus, with design strategies focusing on maximising natural ventilation and light throughout the 110,000m2 development, reducing resource usage during operation, incorporating low-emission materials and lighting, and providing high quality indoor air, acoustic and thermal performance in each of the school’s eco-friendly buildings.
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is the world's most widely used green building rating system. LEED certification provides a globally recognised framework for healthy, highly efficient, and cost-saving green buildings, which offer environmental, social and governance benefits.
Commenting on the award of LEED Gold to Misk Schools, Senior Partner Kevin Harper explained that during the initial pre-concept meetings, this rating was made a key priority by the client, which drove many components of the design. “Achieving LEED Gold was always a goal for this project, and that requires a high level of commitment from the client along with a team that has the knowledge and experience in delivering outcomes that meet and exceed the criteria,” he said. “We were able to leverage our previous experience in achieving LEED Gold across multiple projects to implement innovation-led strategies, the majority of which focused on energy and water conservation, the use of smart technology, and the overall health and wellbeing of the pupils and teachers making use of the facilities. We’re delighted that the hard work and dedication we’ve put into the project along with Design Engine, our partners and sub-consultants, has achieved the ambition of the client.”
The LEED Gold Certification becomes the second such award for Misk Schools. In 2023, the school was awarded the WELL Precertification at Gold level, courtesy of the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI).
