The Silk District Phase 2 reaches handover

The Silk District Phase 2 has reached handover point. The residential project, which is located in London’s Whitechapel, is comprised of a G+25 tower integrated with two low-rise buildings containing a range of affordable and intermediary apartments, and a public realm which connects Phase 1 of the project and enhances social unification within the local community.

Brewer Smith Brewer Group (BSBG) was appointed in 2020 to deliver the second phase of the residential development by developer Mount Anvil, in the Executive Architect and Lead Consultant roles.

Key aspirations for The Silk District involve achieving seamless reintegration of the development with the local community, while acknowledging future plans for new projects within close proximity to the site. In addition, the design principles targeted enhancement of social unification within the area by incorporating a crafted open public space.

Mark Vaughan, Associate, led the project for BSBG. He explained that there were numerous methodologies and strategies deployed on the design and execution of The Silk District Phase 2 which enabled its successful delivery to the renowned BSBG standard. He said: “As with all our projects, we were focused on deriving maximum value and efficiency throughout the project cycle. The adoption of new technology and innovation-led methodology provided the bedrock for the project’s success, which has been firmly entrenched in extracting the most from BIM software, underpinned by strategic BIM planning.”

He continued: “BSBG worked hand-in-hand with Mount Anvil on The Silk District Phase 2. This close working relationship has enabled all stakeholders, including contractors and sub-contractors, to develop a full understanding of the standards and methods required to execute the project.
