The obvious aesthetic individuality of The Opus corresponds to the levels of innovation and prestige represented by the construction approach and the features of the finished building. From the coordination required in ensuring the structural steel of the void would fit perfectly with the curved glass, to the uniquely formulated and individually manufactured glass itself, with each piece containing pixelated striations that reduce solar impact on the interior.
BSBG’s role on the project involved refining the design, as well as coordinating and managing a change in strategy by the client regarding the end use of the building, which saw The Opus move from its initial guise as a commercial building to become a truly mixed-use offering. Providing lead consultancy and executive architecture solutions, the group was also the Architect of Record and technical supervisor of construction, working under a Design & Build contract. Advanced 3D software was used to model in detail the complex geometries between structural steel, bespoke façade elements, and access provisions to help aid design development.
