Ensuring safety and compliance from concept.
As Building Regulations Principal Designer, BSBG takes responsibility for planning, managing and monitoring compliance with the Building Regulations throughout the design phase. The role is central to the requirements of the Building Safety Act, ensuring that safety, coordination and regulatory compliance are embedded into the project from the outset.
Our involvement begins at the earliest stages of design, where we establish clear strategies for compliance and coordinate input from all designers. This includes reviewing design information, managing the flow of information between disciplines and ensuring that all parties understand and fulfil their responsibilities under the regulations. The objective is to create a coherent, coordinated design that meets statutory requirements without compromising the architectural intent or programme.
We work closely with the client, design team and consultants to identify and mitigate risks as the design develops. This includes maintaining oversight of fire and life safety strategies, structural integrity, access and compliance across all relevant aspects of the Building Regulations. By maintaining this level of control, we ensure that issues are addressed proactively rather than reactively.
A key part of the BRPD role is the management of information and documentation. BSBG ensures that design information is complete, coordinated and suitable for submission to the Building Safety Regulator where required. This includes supporting Gateway submissions and maintaining the golden thread of information, providing transparency and traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
Our approach is both rigorous and practical. We align compliance requirements with the realities of design and construction, ensuring that solutions are not only technically correct but also deliverable. This reduces risk, supports programme certainty and provides confidence to all stakeholders.
Through our role as BRPD, BSBG provides clarity, control and assurance, ensuring that projects meet the highest standards of safety and regulatory compliance from concept through to completion.
