BSBG at CUD Careers Day

Brewer Smith Brewer Group (BSBG) took part in the annual Careers Day held last week at Canadian University Dubai (CUD). Representing the group at the event were Partner Scott Orwin, Roxanne Djaiji (Senior Design Architect) and Alia Soufan (Senior Interior Designer). The Careers Day is one of the more popular events held at CUD during the course of the academic year, as it brings together many of the top private and public sector organisations operating in Dubai for third, fourth and fifth year students to connect with. CUD is one of a number of education partners BSBG engages with in the UAE, and Noha Sameh, a CUD 2017 alumni, is currently excelling as an architect in the design studio at the Dubai headquarters.

Energy and enthusiasm

Meanwhile, Roxanne has become a periodic representative for the group at local educational events in Dubai, and she told us how impressed she has been by the levels of energy and enthusiasm shown by the students at the CUD Career Day each time she has visited. “The CUD students always ask a lot of insightful questions and are very well motivated to engage with a professional practice in the earlier stages of their education,” she explained. “The architecture department within the university is strong with promising students graduating year after year; a testament to their distinguished lecturers and well balanced curriculum.”

BSBG makes regular appearances at CUD throughout the academic year, hosting guest lectures on different aspects of architectural design, and acting as judges for different modules within both the Architecture and Interior Design programmes.

The students’ enthusiasm was palpable across the board on the day, which led to a lot of interesting interaction with students studying a whole range of subjects besides Architecture. “We always meet such a variety of students at these events,” Roxanne continued. “As well as those studying Architecture and Interior Design, I met some very bright young students who are studying Business Administration, Human Resources, Accounting and Finance. These are all important roles in an international company of our size, and without talent in these areas the architects and interior designers would not have the support they need to perform at the highest level. It was nice to explain the opportunities we can offer to talented individuals that fit the BSBG mold, despite having a different set of skills to those we are most readily associated with. It was also good to show that our slogan is most definitely true… We really are ‘more than architecture’…”
