BSBG HCMC office celebrates end of Vietnamese Year

Brewer Smith Brewer Group (BSBG) HCMC celebrated the forthcoming Tết holiday and the end of the lunar year with a staff dinner followed by a function, attended by local and international clients. BSBG Managing Partner Alistair McMillan was accompanied by Partner Andrew Bereza and Associate Director Chris Brown, who travelled to Ho Chi Minh City from Dubai for the occasion. The function was held at SOHY Sky Lounge, an impressive rooftop bar split over three levels with panoramic view of the city.

Although the weather was overcast and rain was in the air, spirits were high, the outlook for the year ahead was bright, and there was a discernible feeling of optimism. 2018 was a great year for BSBG in Asia, as awareness of the group’s presence in the region grew, and the HCMC office made invaluable contributions to the group’s international project portfolio.

The most important and popular holiday in Vietnam, Tết marks the beginning of the Lunar New Year and the arrival of Spring. The full name of the holiday is “Tet Nguyen Dan”, which translates into English as “Feast of the very First Morning”.

Tết begins on the first day of the first month on the Lunar calendar, which this year falls on the 5th February. It is a time during which many customs are practiced, such as reconnecting with family and friends, showing generosity, smiling and behaving well. It is believed by many that the action of one’s self on the morning of Tết will determine how the rest of the year pans out. To mark the start of the new year, many families will ‘Spring clean’ their houses from top to bottom, while others make it a priority to clear any outstanding debts they have with credit cards or relatives before the new year starts.

“It was a really enjoyable experience to celebrate this important occasion with our Vietnamese staff,” Alistair McMillan said. “Our Asian office has performed at a very high level throughout the last year, and it was nice to be able to celebrate that and to look forward to this next 12 months together.”

Alistair continued: “This year I expect to see BSBG’s Asian office continue to grow, and our presence in Asia become more widely known. There are some exciting projects on the horizon for us here, marking a continuation of the rapid progress we’ve made here since establishing in HCMC two and half years ago…”
