Autodesk hosts “Future of Design” seminar for BSBG

Autodesk, one of the leading software solutions providers for the architecture, engineering and construction industries, hosted a seminar for Brewer Smith Brewer Group (BSBG) this week at Dubai Creek Golf Club, to present the concept of generative design and Project Refinery - a beta which runs in Dynamo for Revit, and which many believe could take design work in the future to a whole new level.

Generative design is a methodology that uses computational power to generate design options based on key parameters. Using the Project Refinery beta, users can specify high level goals and constraints for the project in question, and find they are presented with hundreds, or thousands, of design options to explore and consider.

The programme looks after the process work and provides option analysis to assess feasibility, which in turn speeds up the process of option refinement, leaving the designer to pick the option/s they deem most appropriate, many of which they may not have conceived of in the first instance - and certainly not in the same timeframe.

Many key staff members across architectural technology, engineering and interior design were in attendance for BSBG, including Interior Designer Ahmad Al Homsi, who told us: “We were all hugely impressed by the possibilities of Project Refinery by Autodesk. It could potentially have a profound effect on the way in which we achieve our design goals, because it reduces the time it takes to generate designs, while presenting many more feasible options than we could possibly produce.”

Mark Vaughan, Lead Architectural Technologist was also in attendance, and he explained that BSBG intends to test the beta. “BSBG is very excited about generative design. We are already working with the foundations of this, such as Dynamo and computational design, however, the presentation given by CAD Gulf has ignited a spark in our team to really see how we can take this to the next level.”

He finished by saying: “Thanks to both Autodesk and CADGulf for generously hosting such a great event for us, and we look forward to continuing our work together in advancing design capabilities throughout the region.”

BSBG would like to thank the teams at CADGulf and Autodesk Dubai for hosting us, including Melbin Abraham and Karan Singh from CADGulf, and Khaled Rawi, Vijay and Sorin Bularca from Autodesk.
