BSBG and Multiplex win H&S awards for ICD Brookfield Place

Brewer Smith Brewer Group (BSBG) and contractor Multiplex have both received an award each for maintaining a safe workplace at the ICD Brookfield Place construction site since work began.

The project was awarded the Bronze Category Construction Compliance Award at the Dubai Development Authority (DDA) World Day for Safety and Health, and was one of only three nominated projects from 14 to receive an award.

On behalf of BSBG, Partner Scott Orwin was joined by Christopher Day, Senior Architectural Technician and MS Shajahan, Senior Project Manager, to collect the award, which was presented by Mr Masoud Alzarooni, Executive Director at Dubai Development Authority.

The World Day for Safety and Health at Work has its roots back in 1919, when in the post-First World War era the International Labour Organization (ILO) was established by the Treaty of Versailles. The ILO was formulated with the mandate of improving conditions for workers across the globe, in particular the regulation of workers’ hours, conditions and salaries, and through the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, the level of awareness raised has the target of continuing to significantly improve conditions for workers in all sectors across the world.

Safety and wellbeing a priority for BSBG

Having collected the award, Scott Orwin spoke of his delight at receiving recognition for the group’s safety standards from a prestigious government entity such as DDA. “This is not an individual award, but a project award that all of our team members can be proud of, aligned with the very highest standards set by our client,” Scott said. “Health and safety is a collective responsibility and also an individual one, and we ensure that safety is the first thought of all of our employees who work so hard for us each day on site across all of our projects. We are very proud of our safety record on site, and to have this recognised specifically on ICD Brookfield Place is a wonderful achievement for us.”

He continued: “It is extremely important that BSBG continues to support the fine work of our partners at the DDA and Dubai Municipality, to ensure health and safety processes, standards and procedures improve in both design and construction of our buildings. This commitment will ensure that BSBG projects are not only built to the highest health and safety standards, but are safer for our owners to operate after completion.”

ICD Brookfield Place is a 53-storey skyscraper, designed by Foster & Partners, for which BSBG is working as the Lead Consultant, and Multiplex the Contractor. The project is located in DIFC, and recently the tower core and concrete works were completed.
