Demolition works are now under way on the final phase of One Clapham, a residential development by Mount Anvil featuring six buildings and 307 apartments within a landscaped community in Clapham, London. One Clapham is the final part of the award-winning transformation of St John’s Hill, a 1930s Peabody estate in South West London. Brewer Smith Brewer Group (BSBG) is the Architect and Lead Consultant for Phase 3 of the project.

The demolition works comprise of an initial soft strip works to all existing blocks, during which time all all soft furnishings, kitchens, cupboards, doors and windows will be removed prior to the structural demolition of the existing blocks on the site. The final stage of the demolition works involves the excavation of the foundations for the new buildings.

On completion of the demolition works the site will undergo preparation for the piling works which will include laying a recycled crushed concrete layer over the site to provide a stable foundation for the piling rig. The piling works are planned to commence in October 2023.

BSBG Associate Director, Alistair Bradley, said: “With demolition now underway on the existing site, this represents the beginning of an intensive period of work in preparation for construction. It’s great to see such high quality, resolved design documentation from the team at this stage of the project, and we are looking forward to the next stage of our fruitful partnership with Mount Anvil on such a significant residential community”.

About One Clapham

One Clapham will introduce 307 new one, two and three-bedroom homes to the heart of Clapham, minutes from one of London’s best connected transport hubs. The new development places wellbeing at the forefront, and will feature a residential Peloton fitness hub alongside a new village square, wildflower gardens and trees.

The design Architects (Hawkins Brown) took architectural inspiration from the area’s history, with six distinctive brick buildings offering impressive views across London. Each of the buildings are positioned around The Square, a traditional community square designed to host seasonal pop-ups, community events, performances and garden markets.

Each detail of the design is anchored in the area’s history. At the entrance, striking arches, distinctive brick design and high lobby ceilings reflect the area’s eminence as a historic railway hub. Traditional craftmanship has been applied to each of the individually designed apartments, creating a series of unique new homes rooted in history but with contemporary flair.
