A number of new opportunities have opened up to join BSBG’s growing London studio, owing to some new pipeline projects and an imminent period of growth and expansion. We spoke to Associate Alistair Bradley about the roles and the outlook for short term growth and success for BSBG in London. Read on to find out how to apply and learn more about the specifics of each of the new roles.

Media Team: We’re currently recruiting for architects and technologists; could you expand on the roles and the requirements for each of the current open positions?

Alistair Bradley: "There are four roles currently with the BSBG London studio. We are keen to recruit a Lead Architectural Technologist, someone with around 10 years’ experience who is able to hit the ground running on some complex and challenging project.

“We are also looking for a Senior Architect in a client-facing role, who can run projects independently and has experience of delivering projects in both the residential and hospitality sectors.

“Additionally, we are keen to hear from Architectural Technologists at CIAT level who consider themselves to be Revit experts.

“The final position currently is for a Project Architect with five years’ post Part 3 experience, who can demonstrate great knowledge of project development, and a clear understanding of drawing packages.”

MT: Can you explain more about the short-term prospects for BSBG in the London market as we look to grow and expand?

AB: “It’s a brilliant opportunity to join an already very large and successful international architectural group, in what is for us a smaller boutique office here in Holborn right now. We are at the beginning of a very exciting period of expansion and growth. We have three projects under our belt already - two great hospitality projects completed and a high-rise residential development, which is now at Stage 5. We have an amazing footing in the market, we are established as one of the leading practices currently delivering complex projects across the world, and we’re in a fantastic position to continue winning work and develop bigger projects in London. It’s a pivotal point so anyone who joins us at this stage will be coming in at an exciting time, and will be central to the growth of the London studio.”

MT: What kinds of projects can successful candidates expect to be working on?

AB: “Projects in the short term are focused towards residential and hospitality. The pipeline projects are predominantly post-planning delivery, which really plays to the strengths of the standards we have in place. However, there will be a diverse workload; we have a variety of concept schemes that require developing, visuals producing, to help portray the viability of schemes to town planners and clients. We also work as part of an international team along with our Dubai and Riyadh offices, so the work is varied and very interesting.

“We are at the start of the studio’s growth, and so we are expecting those that join our team to be able to wear several hats initially, and to enjoy a diverse workload across a variety of jobs.”

"We have a huge focus on standards, technical expertise in BIM, and the ability to derive ultimate value for our clients while bringing great architecture to life."

MT: For those that may not know, what is BSBG renowned for internationally?

AB: “We have been involved in the design and delivery of many of the most prestigious, complex and challenging architectural developments in the Middle East, and are certainly among the most accomplished practices in one of the world’s most demanding markets. We have a huge focus on standards, technical expertise in BIM, and the ability to derive ultimate value for our clients while bringing great architecture to life. As a British-owned business we have always had strong ties to the UK, and since we established the studio in London we have brought that same focus and mentality to the market here, which has been very well received.”

MT: How would you describe the experience of working in the BSBG London office?

AB: “BSBG has a reputation for fast-track project delivery, so it’s a fast-paced working environment. In the London studio we’re a really close-knit team of people who are working well together, and socialising with each other. We work hard, but we also work with enjoyment and passion, and this is abundantly clear in the camaraderie we have and the support everyone has to help each other.”

MT: Who would be ideally suited to the roles we have open currently?

AB: “BSBG is very uniquely positioned in the market, in so much that we are very end-product focused. As an architect with BSBG you are experiencing projects as they move through all the stages. We continue to work alongside some of the world’s top design houses, including UNStudio, Foster + Partners and Zaha Hadid Architects, as delivery partners on different projects. We work closely with these fantastic design houses, often from 50% concept in some cases. There is a huge level of respect between us and they understand our role as the driving force behind the project delivery. This is certainly a great opportunity for people to join us if they want to see projects through to completion and have that desire for a more rounded portfolio.

“Many architects remain focused on concepts and planning approvals, and have limited involvement beyond Stage 3, so we’re offering a pathway to a more complete project experience, which we hope is an attractive proposition to a lot of people. It’s very enjoyable and hugely satisfying to develop designs and formulate ideas that see projects realised, and that’s something that BSBG continues to be incredibly successful at.”
