The Opus is a project designed by world-renowned architect Dame Zaha Hadid, known for her innovative and controversial approach to architecture, and one of many unique buildings developed by the architect for the United Arab Emirates. BSBG has taken on the challenging job of bringing to life this landmark project, providing all authority approvals, construction drawings and site supervision.

Under a Design & Build contract with developer Omniyat and main contractor Multiplex, the project is currently under construction. The Opus is located in the heart of the new central business district, Business Bay, which is being developed as a commercial, residential and business cluster along a new extension of Dubai Creek extending from Ras Al Khor to Sheikh Zayed Road.

The Opus is a mixed-used development including 15 levels of A grade office space, five levels of retail and a boutique hotel, with three levels of serviced apartments and a private shaded roof terrace at the top.

The façade

The Opus void has one of the largest and most complex free-form aluminium curtain wall façade systems ever designed in the UAE. It consists of more than 3,000 double and single curved unitised panels, each with its own integrated smart LED lights. The façade system, which at certain locations covers a full 360° view, allows for connection to both concrete slab and steel supports.

Construction

The Opus is currently taking shape as the ‘dancing columns’ follow the contours of the atrium, with the central columns and slab configuration unique to each floors. Once completed, The Opus will set a new standard for building design in the continual changing landscape of the Dubai skyline.
